Missing one or more teeth in your mouth can be a serious cause for concern. Beyond the simple fact that it impairs your ability to chew food, a missing tooth can also mar your appearance and cause alignment issues. In order to treat all of these complications, our dentist, Dr. Richard C. Quinttus, will recommend using a dental implant to replace the tooth.

First, your dentist will examine the area and take some X-rays. The main goal is to assess the bone integrity and make sure there’s enough structure to mount a dental implant. If the accident or extraction process resulted in the loss of bone structure in the jaw, he might recommend that you receive a bone graft in advance of the implant procedure.

You will need to be fully sedated to have the titanium dental implant installed in your mouth. After the procedure, you will still be too sleepy to safely drive. So, you will need to arrange to have someone drive you home.

To implant the abutment, a small channel will be drilled in your jawbone. A titanium implant will then be screwed into place. Titanium is the metal of choice because it is biologically inert and will eventually fuse to the surrounding bone tissues.

Once the implant has been fully integrated into your jaw, your dentist can go about the standard practice of fitting the titanium abutment with a standard dental crown.

If you are missing a tooth, you should call Rahn Dental Group at (937) 435-0324 to see if you’re a good candidate for dental implant in Dayton, Ohio.
