Saliva is an important part of oral health. Saliva cleanses the mouth, aids in digestion, and prevents infection by controlling the bacteria and fungi in the mouth. – Issues with speaking, tasting, chewing, or swallowing
– Sore throat, hoarseness, or dry nasal passages
– Bad breath

There are many things you can do to relieve dry mouth. Chew sugar-free gum or eat sugar-free hard candy to stimulate your saliva flow. Limit the intake of caffeine, as this can make your mouth dryer. Avoid mouthwashes that have alcohol in them, as the alcohol can dry out your mouth. Instead, try using a mouthwash that is designed for dry mouth. Stop smoking or chewing tobacco. Drink water regularly. Breathing through your nose instead of your mouth can also help reduce dry mouth. If needed, take over-the-counter saliva substitutes. Do not use over-the-counter antihistamines and decongestants because they can make your symptoms worse. Also consider using a room humidifier at night.
