How Dental Insurance Works
Every patient’s plan is different, but the basic agreement is that the insurer offers coverage for a percentage of the cost of dental care in exchange for the payment of a monthly plan premium. In most cases, you can expect to receive the following:
- 100% preventive care covered
- Minor restorative care around 70%-80% covered
- Major restorative care around 50%
What is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?
Dental insurance plans typically focus on preventive dentistry services. You’ll receive the greatest coverage for these treatments to keep your smile healthy. While medical insurance does cover preventive treatments the majority of coverage is geared towards treatment for chronic illnesses and medical emergencies.
In-Network VS Out of Network Dentistry
One of the many advantages to dental insurance coverage is that you can receive coverage for necessary dental care at almost any practice. However, visiting an in-network office may ensure lower out of pocket costs.
In-network dental practices agree to set pricing that falls within your plan’s maximum treatment pricing. That means you’ll only need to worry about the out of pocket percentage of treatment costs. Out of network dentists don’t have these agreements, so you may need to pay a small amount in addition to the out of pocket costs to make up the difference in price. An in-network dentist is also more familiar with your insurer, so they can offer more accurate price estimates and receive responses to inquiries more quickly. We are happy to offer in-network insurance coverage for the following plans:
Out of Network Coverage
Most dental offices will work with you and your insurer to help you maximize coverage even if they’re not in-network with the insurance policy. Any difference in pricing should be minimal, so don’t hesitate to talk to our team about your coverage even if we’re out of network.
