The Primary Threat to Your Oral Health
Inside your mouth, there are a multitude of microorganisms (called bacteria) that are always present. They feed on leftover food and beverage particles, and if not eradicated, they rapidly grow and multiply. This can spell disaster for your oral health, as they can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss and serious health problems. Because bacteria grow silently, if your oral health isn’t monitored on a consistent basis, you may not know you have a problem developing until it has reached a crescendo.
The Benefits of Dental Checkups and Cleanings
When you commit to visiting Rahn Dental Group every six months for preventive care, you’ll have a line of defense against the harmful effects of bacteria growth. Every step of the way our highly-trained dental assistants and hygienists will guide you through the entire process. Then, your dentist in Dayton will complete the visit by performing an examination and sitting down with you to discuss where you’re at currently and how to get where you need to be.
By identifying and treating problems early, you’ll not only prevent unnecessary suffering; you’ll also save money by avoiding more complex procedures.
What Happens During the Dental Cleaning?
At your first visit, you’ll complete the necessary paperwork. Then, you’ll be greeted by one of our friendly dental assistants who’ll check your vital signs, capture X-rays and answer any initial questions you may have. You’ll then meet your dental hygienist, who will clean your teeth by removing calculus, stains and plaque from all the surfaces. She will also chart any information that needs to be passed to your dentist.
How the Dental Checkup Works
After cleaning your teeth, your dental hygienist will then perform an initial examination to identify signs of tooth decay or gum disease. Then, your dentist will complete the assessment by examining your jaw to make sure it is functioning properly. He or she will also consider your bite, looking for signs of bruxism or an imbalance that could result in painful joint inflammation.
If any budding issues are discovered, they will be brought to your attention when you sit down with your dentist for the final consultation. We’ll then collaborate with you to create a suitable plan of action to restore your oral health to where it should be.
