Even if you diligently brush and floss your teeth twice a day with high-quality oral hygiene products, it still might be possible for a cavity to form on one of your teeth. If you notice a change in texture, a suspicious chip, or increased sensitivity in one of your teeth, you shouldn’t wait for your next dental checkup with Rahn Dental Group to have it examined. If a cavity is detected early, one of our dentists, Drs. Quinttus, Budde, or Sullivan, can usually repair it with a small-to-medium-sized filling.

Our dentist will first conduct a thorough examination of the tooth in question to determine the extent of the decay. So long as the area of tooth decay is limited to the enamel layer of the tooth, our dentist can repair it by numbing the tooth and surrounding gums and applying a basic filling.

To do this, our dentist will use a drill to remove any areas of decayed enamel. The material our dentist will recommend for the filling is primarily based on the tooth’s location and its prevalence in your smile. There are two main types of dental fillings available: amalgam fillings and composite fillings. Amalgam and composite materials can be directly applied to the cavity.

If you think you may be developing a cavity on one of your teeth, we invite you to call Rahn Dental Group’s offices in Dayton, Ohio at (937) 435-0324 to see if it can be repaired by a filling. Drs. Quinttus, Budde, and Sullivan and our team are always happy to restore your smile!
